Did you know, the term "Blue
Chip Stock" came from the color of the poker chip with the
highest value? (This is no longer the case, but it was back
when only
three colors were used for poker chips).
Standard Poker Chip Color Values and
Denominations:
The colors and variations of clay
poker chips used in casinos around the world are many and varied,
however, poker chip sets come in 3 or 5 standard poker chip
colors.

Three colour chip sets come in white,
red and blue. In a home game you may assign any value to the
chips that you like, however the values should be in that order - white
as the lowest value, then red, then blue as the highest
value. Typically, values assigned are 1X (white) 5X (red) and
10X (blue).
Five color poker chip sets include
green and black poker chips and are assigned values of 20X and
100X. The example below can be considered as a 'standard' set
of values for poker chips:

When playing from
home in a friendly game, with poker chips substituting for pocket
change, a standard set of poker chip color values would be .05 white,
.10 red, .20 blue, .40 green and $1 black.
